Steel and Concrete Above Ground Storage Tanks (AST’s) often need protection from outside traffic and weather elements. Polyurea protective coatings are ideal for applications where deterioration and damage may result to ASTs due to environmental conditions. Since some polyureas are capable of being applied in thicknesses of up to 100 mils [2.5 mm] in a single pass with no appreciable sagging, installation of protective coatings can often be achieved in a single day, with return to service available within 24 hours of completion.
Pipe and Pipeline Coatings and Linings
Pipe and Pipelines pose a challenge for many other protective coating systems that polyurea is able to overcome with relative ease. Because of the rapid gel/cure time of many polyurea systems, as well as the wide range of installation temperatures [from -40°F to +300° F in some cases], often pipes and pipelines do not have to even have to be removed from service while coatings are installed. Additionally, with the advent of Robotic Sprayed-in-place Pipeline systems, the life expectancy of pipes and pipelines can be feasibly extended to 50 years (and beyond).
The Advantages of Polyurea Secondary Containment Liners
Polyurea is commonly used as a material for lining primary containment tanks as well as a lining system for secondary containment structures. Polyurea offers excellent adhesion to properly prepared surfaces and is used as an alternative to epoxy, polyurethane, fiberglass and other mat reinforced lining systems. Polyurea coatings combine high tensile strength and elongation properties with low permeability and high impact resistance, making them ideal where a tough, flexible (or hard) liner is needed.
